Dear Physics Students
Here's a recap of today's meeting:
Dr Paulo Acioli gave a brief intro to his recent work with a student
investigating the Coanda Effect and how some airflow effects commonly
associated with Bernoulli are really due to Coanda.
We discussed projects we could tackle. The "Balloon/Rocket Launch"
project was resuscitated. Some ideas put forward included launching a
rocket with a camera. Dr. Srinivas suggested a rocket building contest
to make things more interesting.
Keeping to a skyward theme, someone asked about the telescopes we had
and put out the idea of a skygazing party.
I brought up the need for a general purpose physics hang-out room, a
place that would serve physics students day-to-day. We used to have
this in S233 a few years back. S213 is a strong possibility, though
we'd have to schedule time with the Math dept.
Ideas for demos were also discussed. There was a lot of curiosity about
sonoluminescence; this will be the main topic for next month's meeting.
By common consensus the next meeting is set for March 16, noon - 2pm.
That's the Friday before Spring Break.
Please note the longer time's meant to accommodate more people. If you
can stay the whole time, great. If you can manage 10 minutes, that's
fine too.
I'll send reminders out in a few weeks.
PLEASE send your ideas and suggestions.
Thanks
John P.
