Earlier we discussed some things about sonoluminescence. Were we going to attempt single bubble sonoluminescence or multi bubble sonoluminescence? SBSL requires the bubble to be surrounded by transducers in a very symmetrical way, MBSL can be done with an ultrasonic horn immersed in water.

Annual SPS elections are coming up and nominations are open.
Current nominees for office are the following people:

  President – Eunice Laguna
  Vice President – Jose Escobedo
  Secretary-Treasurer – Greg Freimark

Other nominations are welcome. We will meet again April 6 – the Friday after Spring Break.

Rockets were a hot topic again today, thanks to Greg Freimark’s research. He found a local Illinois rocket club and several places to buy model rockets and cameras. The rockets seem reasonable ($150 and down) and some come prebuilt with cameras. The prevailing sentiment was that it would be more interesting to build some manner of electronics and camera package rather than getting something pre-made.

We will have two meetings in April to motivate the nominations & elections. Next meeting will be April 6 at noon, then two weeks later, April 20th for the elections.

Eunice has volunteered to make SPS flyers to build interest in the club, and Greg Freimark has offered to contact NEIU Public Safety about doing rocket launches on campus.

  Thanks

  John Papiewski
