Dr. Greg Anderson,

I am writing to let you know about the Research Experience for
Undergraduates program at the Synchrotron Radiation Center (SRC) for the
summer of 2008. Please pass on the information below to students who could
use this opportunity or to undergraduate advisors.

A poster announcing the program is available on the SRC-REU website at:
http://www.src.wisc.edu/outreach/SRC-REU/2008/SRC-REU_Program_2008.pdf.
Deadline for applying to the program is February 15th.

Research Experience for Undergraduates at the Synchrotron Radiation Center
(SRC)

The SRC light source is funded by the National Science Foundation and uses
an electron storage ring to provide synchrotron light as a tool for doing
scientific research. We are located southeast of Madison, Wisconsin.

Our Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program runs for 9.5 weeks
from May 28 to August 1, 2008. Participants will work with a mentor,
graduate students and SRC scientists in the design, implementation and
completion of a research project. The experience culminates with the writing
of a scientific paper and presentation at a research symposium.
Participants receive a generous stipend in addition to paid travel to and
from Madison, housing, health insurance (if needed), transportation to SRC,
and a partial meal allowance. Participants are housed and interact with
other summer program students of various disciplines creating a community of
research scholars.

Participants and projects from last year included:

*	Justin Frederick, from Xavier University of Louisiana, worked with
Dr. Hartmut Hochst and Richard Hatch on a project titled: "An Analysis of
Substrate Dynamics and Dependence with Pentacene Films."
*	Hanna Heo, from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, worked with
SRC Researcher Carol Hirschmugl and SRC scientist Bob Julian on a project
titled: "IR Microspectroscopy of Living Algae."
*	Alex Olson, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, worked with
Dr. J. Leon Shohet and Ganesh Upadhyaya on a project titled: "Measuring
Photoemission and Substrate Currents Induced by Vacuum Ultra Violet Exposure
of Patterned Silicon Oxide Wafers."
*	Bethany Riley, from Taylor University, worked with Dr. Ralf Wehlitz
on a research project titled: "Photoionization of Deuterated Benzene."
*	Bithi Roy, a junior majoring in Chemistry from City University of
New York Queens College, worked with Dr. Mike Abrecht on a research project
titled: "Micro-Spectroscopic Study of Henbury Crater Meteorites Using
SPHINX."

For more information including eligibility requirements, current projects,
abstracts of previous projects, and a poster about the program, visit our
website at http://www.src.wisc.edu/outreach/SRC-REU.htm

The deadline for applying to the program is February 15th, 2007.
