Dark matter and what can the center of our galaxy tell us about it

Dr. Gabrijela Zaharijas

Department of Physics

Northeastern Illinois University

In this talk I will try to answer the questions of what do physicists call "dark matter", why do we think there is quite lot of it in the Universe and what do we think it is (and it is not) made of. I will talk about the ways we should be able to detect it and what experiments we built in order to try to find it. I will then focus on the specific type of experiments, the ones that are looking for a gamma ray signal from dark matter annihilation and discuss if the galactic center is really the place where we should look for it.
